Grub2 Restore problem in DELL LAPTOPS :solved

Last week two of my friends have bought new DELL laptop.They asked me to install the linux operating system.So i choose the Super OS( Customized version of Ubuntu 10.04) ,because that has the excellent user interface and multimedia codec’s.

I install the Super OS in my USB drive.Then using the BOOT FROM USB DRIVE option in Laptop I installed the OS in that system.
After that installation to test the OS I halt the system and boot in to Ubuntu.It enters into Ubuntu and works perfectly.
Then again I want to test the Windows 7 64 bit operating system.So i reboot the system and enters into Windows 7,It is also working perfectly.

I gave the Laptop to my friend to enjoy the experience of New Laptop with Ubuntu’s Excellent interface.
Then after 5 mins I have got a call from him that
"System not Booting any operating system dude!! What u had done to my system?" I shocked and ask him to bring the lap.

Error message was:

No module found

Then I try to reinstall the OS,not works and try different versions of Ubuntu,no one supports the new model of DELL Laptop.
Only Ubuntu 10.04 version supports the new model.
I waste the next 3 days for trying the above.Then I asked the senior Naveneethan about this problem.
He also don’t know about that,But he noted the error and ask that in ILUG-C.

Actually he got replies from the group people,then he forward the replies to me.

The problem was,in the new Windows 7 operating system they installed the new software called DELL Data Safe.If u boot into Windows,
this softwares starts executes and deletes the Grub.
That is the problem.After I uninstalled the DELL Data Safe system works fine with Ubuntu and Windows 7.
I thanked the Senior,who helped me to solve this problem.If u have problems,first search in internet.
U can find solutions within a minutes instead of wasting the days.Good lesson for me.

My friends were happy!!!

My Army Interview Experience

20th September,2010 morning 8.45 am,Panneer,Manoj and me started from hostel to attend the Army interview
conducted by the Indian Army for the 4 colleges in around Erode.
We have wait at auditorium till 10.30 am,then they started the pre-placement talks.
Started with a good video and song to describe the army life and explore the adventures in that life.
A Major start talk about his own experience,that he was the Alumni of the IIT,Kanpur.And others continue speaks.
Another Major talk about the salary of the army personnel,about 7.2 lakhs maximum and 21k
per month was the minimum salary.Then he compared the corporate life and the army life with the salary as a constraint.

Then pre-placement talks were finished.Then our dept was the first to attend the interviews.

Panneer was the first candidate in that panel.
He entered,after some time he got tired and came out side.
Next Manoj,Interviewer took more time for him to explore the study from his certificate packages,and his talks.
Then after Manoj,Interviewer told me to wait for 1 minute and enter.

Me: Excuse me,Sir
He: Yes,come in, is this is Kannan?
Me: Yes Sir,

He: Can u take ur seat!
Me: Thanks you,sir.

He: Do u need a cup of tea?
Me: No thanks,sir

He: What are u fascinating about and wat did u done on those things?
Me: Blah Blah Blah

He: Do u know Mizoram?Is it in india.
Me: Yes sir,This is a state in the north-east india.

He: Is this place is within India?
Me: Yes sir
He: Is it true?
Me: Yes sir,Sure.

He: Tell about India.
Me: India is a largest democratic country in the world.It has 3 kind of security forces to safegaurd the people and the resources. and Blah blah
(India has 28 states and 7 union territories,Chandigarh is the capital for the 2 states Haryana and Utter Pradesh)

He: Tell me about hobbies?
Me: Blah blah

Then we arrived the hostel and bunked the afternoon classes..

After lunch had a good sleep, Panneer wake up me at 4.10 pm and we guys went to write the retest.

Day-3,Infosys Softskill Program

Shirley mam started this wonderful day with
Corporate dressing and grooming.

• What are all the formals have to wear in the interview and company?
• What are all the casuals have to wear,when they allowed casuals in company?

# Activity-1 (Summit)
There were 2 teams,one is Boys & another is girls.
She drawn a line,we have to stand within that line and have to draw a line as much as we can!

This is the way we have drawn the line.What we have learned is

How to play as a team player?
How to effectively develop new and innovative ideas with discussing among the team mates?
What we have done is every time we try to beat another team,and draw over that line?
This have to be evaded.

Then she talked about the Telephone etiquette and played a activity.

# Activity-2 (Man to the Moon)
There is a asteroid coming towards the earth and earth will be destroyed within 6 hours.
A high level meeting happened there about how to restore the human life back.
As a result of that meeting,they planned to go moon,so they built a rocket with the capacity of 8 members with the luggage.
They selected the 8 crew members consist of
Doctor,Electrical engineer,Mechanical engineer,An Army officer,pilot,Professor,Scientist,Water resource manager.Some of them are multi talented.
But again there is a problem.Due to some technical faults that rocket can carry only 6 persons.

This is the situation there,she divide us into 8 teams and give the responsibilities of each person to each team.
What we have to do is,we have to choose a leader,who would fought for us & argue for us to get into that rocket.

As we were choose Neha as team leader and starts the conversation.After some time Dinesh was done that job.
All the teams leaders were discuss,argue & it would be the arm fight,if some more time allow them to speak continuous.
Finally they express their views and messages.

Mam asked each one of them about their opinion that,whom to leave?
Professor got the max no of rejection votes as 5 and water resource manager got 4.We thought that those 6 guys will be the
crew members.Will they make it.

No,finally Shirley mam told that,professor was the leader of the 6 member team and he will be going to select those 6 guys.
All of them were shocked and the mouth open.They are expecting the reply from the leader Boopathi.
He discussed with his team mates and finally came to the result of eliminate the Mechanical engineering guy and Army officer(Our Team).

Then finally she asked about the feeling from the team leaders.

Some of them were

• Happy because they were in.
• Disappointed
• Frustrated
• Pleasure
• Some one feeling Lucky because they don’t want to go and want hurt.

Above situation was same like the corporate world.There is also some hurts and pleasures.We have to handle that and come over.
All the best guys.

Then Shirley mam told some tips about group discussion and finished that day with lots of experiences.

Soft skills training program, Day-2

Basic things in communication:
Visual(Body Language)- 55%
Vocal – 38%
Verbal – 7%

While communicating via two way interaction,the body language is important than other things.It will show that you Not interested,interested,not believe him or nor,got boredom like that.So we have to concentrate on Body Language while communicating,that means u have to concentrate body language on both speaking and listening.

Activity-1
Sherley asked for 6 volunteers,3 from boys and 3 from girls.
She bring them to out of the hall.Then after some time a pair(A boy and girl) entered into the hall.

1) They were walking from opposite side,facing the one and other.Then they were seen for a two seconds and hesitated for a moment and moved in their way.

2) Then after that another pair was entered,also facing each other from oppsite side.
He : Hi ***
She: Hi ***
He : How are u?
She : I am fine,Wat abt u?
He : I am fine,I have some works,Bye see you later.
Then both of them headed their way.

3) Then another pair was entered into that hall from opposite side,
He : Hi ***s! How are u?
She : Hey,I am fine.
He : Did u see Madrasapatnam movie?
She : No!
He : Shall we go?
She : Yes,Sure da.
Then they headed towards the theatre.That’s it.

What we learned from this 3 pairs.

1)They don’t want to speak,know each other,may be enemy,hesitated to speak,don’t want to interact,have some urgent work,don’t want to recall.

2)They were friends,known,known the names of friends,Hi-Bye friednship.

3) They were well known,best friends.

All those guys used the basics parts of communications and told their relationship between them.

Activity-2 (Chinese Whisper Problem)
Sherley asked 5 volunteers,and sent all of them out of the class room.
Then she called the first person inside the hall and read out a following passage

A sports car is going from north to south.A truck is going from
south to north.At the junction the sports car turn left,the
truck turn right and the sports car accelerate before the crash.

this the message first person got.Then he have to convey this message to next coming guy.And then that repeats.

2nd guy: A sports car is coming from north to south,Railway track is there.

3rd guy: A sports car is coming from north to south.

4th guy: A person u are!

5th guy: Wat a person u?

This the way that the above passage is converts to “Wat a person u?”.

How to Give Feedback

Effective feedback consists of following
• Behavioral & Description
• Feelings
• Impact on this behavior
• Request

Take a situation that,Suppose a person in front of your seat in theatre may be stand up often and irritate you.For this u have to give the feed back like this.

Behavioral & Description
When u stand up you hide the screen.

Feelings
I feel disturbed and frustrated.

Impact on this behavior
So my neck getting pain.

Request
So I request you to not stand up and hide the screen.

This is the best way to give the feed back.

Assertive:
We are all want to be higher position in job or game or anything!
What are all we have to do is

We do our job as much as we can?
Don’t interrupt others?
Don’t spoil their rights?

This is Assertive.Most of us don’t want to say ‘NO’ most of the time?
Those guys have to learn to say sorry?

Empathy
This is how we understand the other’s feelings and encourage a person,who is in sorrow!

Sympathy
This is when are also sit with those person,who feel sad and share our feelings.

These things were happened in the second day.

Softskill training program conducted by Infosys campus connect,Day-1

Shirley Thomas will give training in the soft skills.As usual we are late to the classes,then sit there with usual boredom mind.Then she starts to speak….

Basically what is the soft skill?

• How to Communicate?
• How to Behave?
• How to dress?
• How to handle the situation?
• Attitude

These things are the basics for every corporate person!!!

Then the first activity was that,all of us have to write three questions to ask to strange people.This is used to get those people’s details,who were we met some one in train,bus and lift by bike.

Some questions got there was

• What’s your professional?
• What’s about your breakfast?
• What is your hobbies and interests?
• Where did bought this shirt or Chudi (If girl)?
• How many of you in your family?
• What is your native?
• Where are you going?

Then Shirley gave the talk about statistics,while we are communicating

• Attitude

These things are noticed in HR interview.
They expecting
10% Skills & Knowledge
90% is Attitude
Attitude means “How we are seeing the life?”.

After some activities the classes were end.

Wi-FI In Ubuntu 10.04,Dell Laptops

For accessing the wi-fi,I usually switch to Windows 7.It automatically connects to the wi-fi using its defalut wireless driver.

But I want to connect internet in Ubuntu.So I googled about this problem and I found a solution for that.That’s very simple.
Here is the steps

1)To install the Broadcom wireless driver,download the zip file here

2) Extract the file and click the dell_net.sh

Then click Run in terminal

Drivers will install & U can use the Wi-Fi.I think all the Dell laptops work with this driver.

Real World Problems discussed in IdeaCamp

Two weeks back Mr.Selvam(Professor)sir arranged a meet to discuss about the real world problems and the solutions by our own developments.That gave a lot of ideas while I am thinking about the final year project idea.Pradeep,Prabakar and me from final year and some 3rd,2nd year guys were attended the discussion.We discussed till 7.00pm on that day.Some of the idea that we are discussed is below..

1) Remote For Desktops
While we doing presentation or playing songs in our room,we need to access the keyboard to change the slides,change the song.This is little bit hard,while we busy at presentation or some another work.
So if we introduce the remote for desktops,this will useful for the most of the people.
My Idea for This Problem: Connect the receiver to the arrow keys of the keyboard by operate on them.Write programming for the given signals to convert the corresponding actions.

2)Bluetooth Remote For TV
We are struggled to use remote for selecting the suitable direction to access TV.This usually irritate us.
So if we design the remote using Bluetooth technology means,it will be solvable.

3)Mobile Location Identification
Most famous problem,till now not solved.This will cause a privacy issue also.This may be a reason for this technology,not yet improved.
Last month in our hostel 30 mobile phones and a laptop were stolen.But no mobile is not yet located.
We guys have to work on this problem to find a solution without affecting the privacy issue.

4)Universal ATM card
Good idea!
We have each accounts in each banks and have the ATM cards for all blanks.Whenever we go,have to bring those cards always with us.
For this problem "Universal ATM card" will be introduced.We can get the money from all accounts without the corresponding ATM cards.
No need for carrying the bundle of ATM cards.

5)Email Filtering System
Natural Language Processing
In E-mails,if got more mails on the day means,some people don’t have the time to read and the reply those mails.So using Natural Language Processing,we need to find the urgency,priority of the emails and bring them to the separate folder.If the mail contains some the text like commands or personal we have to allocate some higher priority for them.
Thus the way this problem will be solved.

So guys keep think on this idea,If u find any solution do something useful to the real world.

Send SMS from Fedora,using Gnokii : Tested in Nokia 6300,N72

I had used the Gnokii for my project Intimation of Blood Request- A Portal for get the blood intimation fastly.
This is the manual for configure the Gnokii in system.

Assume that we have Fedora,Nokia 6300 and a data cable.

kannan@kannan-laptop:~# yum install gnokii gnokii-smsd gnokii-smsd-mysql

The above command installs the all dependencies need for the Gnokii.

You can install from source also

http://www.gnokii.org/download/gnokii/ downlaod the source and install it.

Gnokii Configuration

After Gnokii installed we need to check the Gnokii identify out mobile.
For that we need the configuration file(gnokiirc) on 2 places.One on /etc and another
on /home directories.

1)If u didn’t find the configuration file use the conf file in /etc.

2)Then open the configuration file in /etc by sudo or root mode.

3)Then give the command wvdialconf,it shows the lot of lines.In this u find that
string "/dev/ttyUSB0" like this or little changed.

4)Then set the model as AT and the connection as serial.

then give
